Meet Dr Mathew Helps
Semaphore Chiropractor Dr Mathew Helps brings nearly 25 years of chiropractic experience to Vitality Semaphore, along with a warmth that practice members notice the moment they walk through the door. Originally from Adelaide, he studied at RMIT University in Melbourne, where he and his wife, Luisa, ran a thriving practice together for 14 years. In early 2023, the family moved back to South Australia, settling into the easy seaside pace of Semaphore. He’s glad to be home.
A Problem-Solver at Heart
That curiosity shapes the way he approaches care, taking time to understand how different aspects of movement and lifestyle may be contributing to what a practice member is experiencing. His additional training in Applied Kinesiology, extremity work, and Reformer Pilates adds another layer to that approach, giving him a broad, movement-informed perspective that he brings to every consultation.
What Brought Him to Chiropractic
His path into chiropractic started at 14, after a serious go-karting accident left him with a neck injury. His first chiropractic visit made a lasting impression and quietly set the course for everything that followed. These days, he brings that same practice member-centred approach to every person who walks in, taking time to understand what they’re dealing with and what they’re hoping to get back to. New practice members often remark on being met with a genuine smile and a real interest in their story. It’s a small thing, but it sets the tone.

Life Outside the Practice
When he’s not in the practice, Dr Mat is usually on the sideline cheering on his twin boys, Oliver and Remy, who play tennis and soccer. He runs regularly with the family’s Border Collie, Lenny, does Pilates, and enjoys a winding drive through the Adelaide Hills when the chance arises.
